David Gale

David Gale studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama as a trombonist in the late eighties, studying both jazz and classical repertoire, and performing as the lead trombone player with the Guildhall Jazz Band at Ronnie Scott's with Randy Brecker. Having always had a major interest in music technology and composition, he was one of two students who encouraged the Guildhall School to establish a studio with Electronic Music in mind and hence the first studio came to fruition in 1990. This was quickly followed by a bigger studio and following on from this success, David was invited back to lecture in Electronic Music the following year. Since then, he has gone on to become one of the UK's leading authorities in Digital Audio Workstation Production, leading him to write for industry magazines such as 'Sound on Sound' and 'Music Tech'. This continues to be the case as he often acts as consultant and demonstrator for Apple's 'Logic Pro', the current industry standard in sequencing and recording software.

In 1997 David started his own production company with another former student and trumpeter, Andy Bush. Their company, Nine Yards Productions, continues to be one of the UK's most in demand production houses of music for film and television, winning an EMMY for their work on the BBC documentary series 'Days that Shook the World'. David has worked on over 60 broadcast television projects to date for all the major networks, both in the UK and abroad, including many blue chip documentaries and films such as Simon Schama's BBC series 'The Power of Art', 'Panorama', 'Timewatch', and Channel 4's 'Alive', 'Castle' and 'The Tower'.
