Electronic music

Individual lessons and masterclasses • Ensemble • Technical Seminars • Composition

Electronic Music represents one of the largest growth areas in the music industry today and suitably skilled Electronic Musicians can enjoy a wealth of vocational opportunities.

The Electronic Music Principal Study course embraces all areas of music technology whilst, at the same time, allowing students the freedom to pursue their studies from a compositional, production or performance bias. The creative approach of individual tuition, supported by group workshops in the theory and techniques of Electronic Music, provides a unique opportunity for developing musical skill with electronic technology as an instrument. It is therefore the musical result that forms the backbone of assessment and not the technological process - although each student progresses through a series of projects which demand ever-increasing technical competence and understanding.

The Electronic Music Studios comprise a specialist single-user dual-booth studio with a full Protools HD system, Langley
52 channel desk, Logic Pro, and a 6 station multi-user studio also providing Protools and Logic Pro. Other programs include MAX MSP, GRM, IRCAM suite, Ambleton Live, Reason and Sibelius for notation. In addition to these two dedicated studios, students benefit from the School's main Protools-based recording studio, the Technical Theatre 5.1 mixing environment and a satellite workstation facility in the Library.
