The Guildhall School of Music and Drama has a strong commitment to supporting students and their learning, and an exciting opportunity for a part time Counsellor to join the Student Affairs team now exists.

A professionally qualified counsellor, you will have experience in the Higher Education sector of working with vulnerable people, preferably with an awareness of working with performing arts students who will benefit from specialist expertise and experience.

With a thorough understanding of higher education within a legislative, policy and practice context you, along with the other counsellors, will represent the Student Affairs Counselling team on relevant university, local and national networks.

We would particularly welcome applications from women as they are currently under-represented in this work group.

This is a 21 hour per week, part time/term time only position and some evening hours, on a weekly basis will be required.

The Guildhall School of Music & Drama is a vibrant, international community of young musicians, actors and theatre technicians in the heart of the City of London. We produce outstanding graduates whose talents light up stages and concert platforms throughout the world.

As well as providing professional training at junior, undergraduate and postgraduate level, the School has an impressive programme of regular performances, encompassing concerts, recitals, plays, operas and musicals which are all open to the general public. Work has recently begun on a new building to extend the School’s facilities and provide additional performance spaces in 2013 on the nearby site of Milton Court.

The School is seeking a confident Development Officer to focus on generating philanthropic income for its revenue needs, primarily for the annual Scholarships Fund, working closely with senior staff, Governors, Trustees and other members of the External Relations team. The successful candidate will have some experience of fundraising in either an arts or an educational context and will have excellent interpersonal, networking, and writing skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

The Guildhall School of Music & Drama is offering an exciting opportunity for a  post-doctoral researcher to join the research and knowledge exchange team. This role will focus on two specific ongoing areas of research: “Understanding Audiences” directed by Professor John Sloboda and “Orchestral musicians of the twenty-first century” directed by Dr Helena Gaunt as part of Centre for Orchestra.

To be successful in your application you will need to have high standard research skills. You will have experience in designing research and in using a variety of research methods relevant to the context of a Conservatoire. You will be able to analyze complex data, preferably both qualitative and quantitative, and will have experience of presenting your findings verbally and in written formats. You will have a PhD completed or near completion in a relevant area e.g. psychology, education or empirical musicology.

In addition you will have keen interest in and practical knowledge of one of the areas taught within the School e.g. music or acting. Experience of teaching in a conservatoire would be an advantage.
