Jeff Clyne, Professor of Bass in the Jazz Department, died unexpectedly on 16 November.

Pamela Weston: 1921-2009

Pamela Weston, Professor of Clarinet from 1951-68, died on 9 September aged 87.

Ivy Sharp: 1926-2009

Ivy Sharp, former Governor of the School, died on 15 August 2009.

Carola Grindea: 1914-2009

Carola Grindea, Professor of Piano from 1968, died on 10 July aged 95.

Ian Carr: 1933-2009

Ian Carr, Professor of Jazz from 1982 until recently, died on 25 February aged 75.

Lionel Altman: 1922-2009

Lionel Altman, former Governor, Trustee and longstanding friend of the School, died on 6 February aged 86.

Ewen Balfour: 1942-2008

Ewen Balfour, govenor and trustee of the School, died on 10 December. He was 66.

Alan Hazeldine: 1948-2008

Alan Hazeldine, Professor of Conducting at the School for many years, died on 10 November at the age of 60.

Leonard Stehn: died 2008

Leonard Stehn, Professor of Cello at the School since 1971, died in October 2008.

Andrew Tansley: died 2008

Andrew Tansley taught on the Stage Management and Technical Theatre course for a short period of time.

Dame Thea King: 1925-2007

Dame Thea King, Professor of Clarinet, died on 26 June at the age of 81.

Max Morgan: 1914-2007

Max Morgan, alumnus and Professor of Violin at the School from 1947 for forty years, died in mid-June at the age of 92.

Katherine McGillivray: 1970-2006

Katherine McGillivray, Professor of Early Music (baroque and classical viola), died suddenly and unexpectedly on 1 August.

Ian Horsbrugh: 1941-2006

Ian Horsbrugh, Principal of the Guildhall School from 1988-2002, died in the early hours of Saturday 22 July. He was 64.

Vilém Tausky: 1910-2004

Vilém Tausky, Director of Opera and Head of Conducting at the Guildhall School from 1966-1992, died 16 March 2004.

Paul Hamburger: 1920 - 2004

Paul Hamburger, Professor at the Guildhall School, died 11 April 2004.

William McAlpine: 3 December 1922 - 2 February 2004

William McAlpine joined the staff at the Guildhall School in 1973. He was a distinguished performed and tutor, he will be greatly missed.

Yfrah Neaman: 13th February 1923 – 4th January 2003
