The Board of Governors

The Board of Governors for the Guildhall School contains elected members from the City of London, elected independent members drawn from the relevant professions, elected members from the Guildhall School staff and the Students' Union president.

The Terms of Reference of the Guildhall School's Board of Governors are:

(a) the determination of the educational character and the mission/aims of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and oversight of its activities;

(b) the effective and efficient use of resources;

(c) the approval of annual estimates of income and expenditure;

(d) the appointment of the Principal of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and, where appropriate, the deputy;

(e) the appointment, grading, suspension, dismissal and determination of the pay and conditions of service of the holders of senior posts;

(f) the setting of a framework for the pay and conditions of service for all other staff;

(g) the management of land and buildings belonging to the Corporation (with the exception of those which are in the province of another Committee) subject always to compliance with the Code of Practice for the Disposal of Property;

(h) writing off debts in accordance with such terms and conditions as are from time to time established by the Court of Common Council;

(i) authorising the institution of any criminal or civil proceedings arising out of the exercise of its functions.

each of the above to be subject to the City of London's Standing Orders, Financial Regulations, and such other terms and conditions as the City og London may determine, other than where varied otherwise.
