Facilities for students
The Guildhall School of Music & Drama comprises approximately 100,000 square metres over four neighbouring buildings which are continually updated and enhanced.
The main building, known as the Silk Street building, is in Silk Street and attached to the Barbican Centre. It was purpose-built by the City of London and was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Robin Gillett on 25 October 1977.
In addition, the School was recently awarded planning permission to redevelop the site at Milton Court. The new building, virtually over the road, will house additional world-class performance facilities: a 610-seat concert hall, 225-seat training theatre, a studio theatre, and space for teaching, office and support services.
By 2012, when the School expands into Milton Court, it will boast five public performance venues equipped to showcase the work of its students.

Facilities
Facilities in the Silk Street building include a 196-seat Music Hall, 80-seat Lecture Recital Room, and a 308-seat Theatre, all of which are open to the public. In addition, there is a Studio Theatre, 41 teaching/practice rooms, electronic music studios, recording and sound studios, the Students' Common Room and I.T. facilities.
Sundial Court, located nearby, is the School's hall of residence. Found in the basement are the School Bar, drama rehearsal space and an additional public performance space. On the ground floor are offices housing all Student Support Services.
John Hosier Annexe, named after the Principal of the School from 1978 to 1988, has 46 teaching/practice rooms and is located on the Barbican Estate.
John Trundle Court is also located on the Barbican Estate and, in addition to the Alumni and Development office, it is the home of the award-winning outreach initiative, Centre for Creative & Professional Practice.
The neighbouring YMCA building facilities include a rehearsal space. This space was acquired in 2007 and will be utilised until Milton Court opens.
The Barbican Centre, to which the School is attached, houses the Registry, Finance and Human Resources departments. Adjacent to the Barbican Centre is Chimes Music - a specialist music service which carries an impressive range of stock for the concert professional.
