Music Theory: Beyond Grade 5 is suitable for students aged 16 or above working towards Music Theory examinations upwards from ABRSM Grade 5. Topics covered include:
- How to realise the figured bass harmony in keyboard, SATB and Trio Sonata textures
- How to complete short Classical or Romantic keyboard pieces
- How to continue solo melodies
The course is taught by Guildhall School music tutors and is designed to meet the needs of any level of experience.
Accommodation is available for anyone aged 18 or over.
Our London Location
The Guildhall School is situated in the City of London within the Barbican Arts Centre, which houses two theatres, a concert hall, cinemas and galleries. It is also within easy reach of West End theatres, the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal National Theatre and Shakespeare's Globe on the South Bank, Sadler's Wells Theatre and Tate Modern.

Applicants from 16 upwards are welcome; however, please note that the School does not provide supervision for under 18s when they are not attending a timetabled activity. However, parents or guardians are welcome on the premises.
- Students must have passed, or be working at a level equivalent to, ABRSM Grade 5 Theory.
- A fluent standard of spoken English is essential.
A refund of fees can only be issued if written notification for a cancellation is received 10 working days before the course is due to begin. No refunds will be offered after this date unless a medical certificate is produced.

Although this course is intended as a preparation for Music Theory Grades above 5, these exams are not included as part of the course. We will, however, provide you with an informal assessment of the level you have achieved at the end of the course, if required.
