Guildhall is an institution that knows it has to be connected to the outside world - that's the key thing. It's not a bubble. It has roots in the city and in the world.

One minute you could be playing in the Guildhall Studio Orchestra with jazz musicians, the next you could be playing in the opera pit, then the next minute you'll be with actors doing the musical and then playing a symphony in the orchestra.

I had access to people I would never have been able to meet as a young composer starting out.

I had the opportunity to play percussion with the Guildhall Studio Orchestra which gave me the chance to learn from, and play alongside, amazing senior players, as well as to perform with the incredible Liane Carroll.

At Guildhall, they don't hold your hand, but they're going to push you to become the actor that you want to be.

It's the scale of productions that really makes Guildhall stand out. It gets to the point where you think, wow, this is massive. In other places, you just wouldn't have that opportunity to learn on the job.

Other spaces in Milton Court

TV Studio Suite

The TV Studio Suite provides the School with dedicated space and specialised equipment for video editing and training in film and television. This has become an essential requirement for drama schools to increase their actors’ versatility once they enter the profession. The Suite also services the increasing video requirements for the School’s opera productions.

The TV Studio Suite features:

  • industry-standard TV cameras and recording equipment
  • state-of-the-art video-editing suite incorporating communication and control facilities with the TV studio
  • lighting and sound control systems

Rehearsal Rooms

The three sprung-floor major rehearsal rooms at Milton Court are integral to the training of actors and opera singers at the School. Each room is the same size as one of the School’s three theatres so that productions can be transferred more easily from rehearsal room to the stage.

These Rehearsal Rooms feature:

  • sprung floors and full-length mirrors
  • state-of-the-art lighting and sound facilities
  • removable, flexible seating in the basement rehearsal room
  • moveable screens for shaping the rehearsal areas
  • adjacent student dressing rooms and showers

Public foyers

Bright, open, well-furnished public foyers on two levels allow students and the public to access all of the venues and meet, eat and drink in comfortable surroundings both during the day and before performances. Glass walls allow the bustling foyer activity to be completely visible from the street, raising our physical profile within the local neighbourhood and the City of London.

Our public foyers feature:

  • audio-visual screens on venue doors to manage latecomers
  • dedicated box office facilities
  • public bars on both levels
  • cloakroom to service all three main venues
  • public address system throughout the foyer spaces
  • integrated access-control systems to divide front-of-house from backstage and teaching areas
  • Wi-Fi coverage for students and teaching staff

Production Arts facilities

Milton Court also houses a number of workshops and facilities for Production Arts, including:

  • costume department
  • wigs and make-up room
  • student production offices for final-year students
  • computer-aided design training room, including printing and A0 plotting, and industry standard Autocad software, WYSIWYG, Vectorworks and Adobe Creative suite of software.

Other spaces

Additional areas within Milton Court reflect the needs of a lively community of performing artists:

  • rehearsal gym for movement work
  • Drama training rooms
  • seminar rooms for technical theatre students
  • student green room
  • tutorial rooms
  • offices for Drama and Production Arts staff
