Musicity x Culture Mile with the EMS Collective
Musicity x Culture Mile is a project that encourages a musical and architectural exploration of Culture Mile.
The pieces use sound mapping data gathered by acoustic experts ARUP to explore the intrinsic connection between architecture and sound. All ten of the new tracks have been geo-targeted to the areas they were written in response to, so visitors can truly connect with the music in the places and spaces that inspired them.
As part of this commission, the Guildhall School’s EMS Collective present an ever changing ensemble of musicians and composers, directed by Mike Roberts. Their piece, Eternal Descent, can be heard in the historic Smithfield Rotunda Garden, a site formerly known as Smooth Field, which was known as a place of public execution during the Middle Ages. Despite its gruesome past, Smithfield Rotunda has been a peaceful public garden space for 137 years, where people relax and take in the market sites.
Eternal Descent will be performed as part of the Guildhall Session Orchestra's launch concert on 3 July. Tickets available here.
