Alex Ingram began his career as a repetiteur at Welsh National Opera followed by three years as Assistant Chorusmaster/Repetiteur at English National Opera. He then became Assistant Conductor and eventually Music Director of State Opera of South Australia. He subsequently spent time on the music staff of Kiel Opera in Germany and rejoined English National Opera where he became one of the Resident Conductors.

With the Royal Ballet he has conducted many performances of Swan Lake and various triple bills in Australia, New York (at the Met), Moscow (Bolshoi theatre and orchestra) and St Petersburg (Mariinsky).  In 2004/5 Alex continued his collaboration with Paul Daniel on the English National Opera Ring Cycle conducting performances of The Valkyrie and Twilight of the Gods. He recently travelled to Japan to conduct triple bills for Sylvie Guillem and in autumn 2005 he prepared and conducted the world premiere of a new opera by Hans Gefors for the Malmö and Lübeck opera companies. In 2006 Alex assisted Oleg Caetani on English National Opera’s new production of Vaughan-Williams’s Sir John in Love, conducted Sleeping Beauty for English National Ballet, worked on Fidelio at Glyndebourne with Mark Elder and conducted Don Giovanni for British Youth Opera. Future plans include conducting at Göteborg’s new opera house.
