Biography

School performance was Rob’s first taste of theatre, instilling a previously unknown desire for hard work and long hours which led him to obtaining a degree in Drama and Theatre Arts from Goldsmiths College, University of London.

Rob spent the majority of his time discovering the rigours of creative and abstract performance practice whilst utilising the skills in technical theatre gained at school to finance himself. Combining the practices, Rob became increasingly interested in conceptual lighting design, lighting many productions in London, nationally and internationally.

Unusual lighting and a passion for unusual venues sparked an interest in rigging, primarily as a means to an end and then as an art in its own right, from achieving desired lighting positions to bespoke studio and concert hall installation and design.

Rob has developed his rigging and automation knowledge from time spent in West End flying houses to festivals and site specific venues, working on genres ranging from dance and music to television, film and events.

Rob has been privileged to manage and collaborate on many exciting projects including BAC at Summerhall, Kursk and Fuel Theatre (winning Herald Angels for both), Madness at Glastonbury, global touring with Subject to Change, Red Ladies with Clod Ensemble, Electric Hotel and many more.

Rob actively seeks creative partnership, recently co-founding his own technical theatre company and working as a freelance in the industry.
