Young artists programme successes for Guildhall singers and repetiteurs

Congratulations to the Guildhall singers and repetiteurs who have secured places at prestigious UK and international opera studios and young artist programmes this summer.

English National Opera’s new Harewood Artists include Benson Wilson (Advanced Certificate Opera Studies 2019, previously Guildhall Artist Masters Vocal Studies & Opera Studies 2018) and William Thomas (Advanced Certificate Opera Studies 2020, previously BMus and Guildhall Artist Masters Vocal Studies), who join fellow Guildhall alumni Claire Barnett-Jones, John Findon, David Ireland and Elgan Llŷr Thomas on the scheme.

This year’s Royal Opera House Jette Parker Young Artist programme will see soprano Alexandra Lowe (Artist Diploma Opera Studies 2019) and repetiteur Michael Papadopoulos (Advanced Certificate Repetiteur 2017) join the talented group of artists, which last year also welcomed alumni Filipe Manu and Andrés Presno.

The Bayerische Staatsoper Opera Studio welcomes baritone Andrew Hamilton (Advanced Certificate Opera Studies 2020, previously Guildhall Artist Masters Vocal Studies), while mezzo-soprano & BBC New Generation Artist Ema Nikolovska joins the Opera Studio of the Staatsoper Berlin (Advanced Certificate Opera Studies 2020, previously Guildhall Artist Masters Vocal Studies).

Mezzo-soprano Elsa Roux-Chamoux and tenor Damian Arnold (both Advanced Certificate Opera Studies 2020, previously Guildhall Artist Masters Vocal Studies) will join the Opéra national du Rhin Opera Studio programme in Strasbourg.

Soprano Erika Baikoff (Guildhall Artist Masters Vocal Studies 2018) joins the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at New York’s Metropolitan Opera in September.

Baritone Michael Daub (Guildhall Artist Masters Vocal Studies 2020) will be joining the Landestheater Linz Opera Studio in Austria from September, while baritone Jacobo Ochoa (BMus Vocal Studies 2020) will build on his association with Tenerife Opera.

Following last summer’s wonderful news of three opera alumni couple marriages, we’re delighted to share that one of those couples, alumni repetiteurs Nathan Harris and Mairi Harris Grewar, will be working side by side having both taken up positions as repetiteurs at the Landestheater Coburg.
