UK Undergraduate Loans
The UK Government offers an all-inclusive package of fees and living cost support for eligible undergraduate students. This is known commonly as a student loan and is organised through the umbrella organisation Student Loans Company. This service includes Student Finance England, Student Finance NI, Student Finance Wales and Student Awards Agency Scotland.
Your loan will not be repayable until your earnings reach at least £27,295; after 30 years any remaining debt will be cancelled.
All UK students embarking on their first undergraduate degree can receive a low-interest tuition fee loan from the Government which is not means-tested.
You should apply for these funds as soon as possible – do not wait for a firm offer of a place.
When applying for the tuition fee loan, please take care that you state the correct tuition fee.
You can apply for a maintenance support to help towards day-to-day living costs, such as rent and travel. The amount of loan you are entitled to is based on where you live, where you study, your household income and whether you are on the final year of your course.
For students applying to Student Finance England in 2022/23 the loan is worth up to £12,667.
If you are from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, you can also apply for maintenance support (loan/grant). The amounts will differ depending on what each devolved government provides. For more details, please visit the government student loans website.
Once enrolment at Guildhall is completed, maintenance payments are paid directly into your bank account at the beginning of each term. Please check the relevant website or guidance booklet (see links below and further down this page) for further information.
All students with dependents, or students with a disability, may also apply for additional funding. Please see the government student loans website for more information.
Whether you qualify depends on several criteria including:
- previous study
- age
- nationality or residency status
For more details, please visit the government student loans website.

External & International Funding
US Federal Loan
If you are a US citizen, you may be able to apply for a US federal loan to help towards tuition fee and maintenance costs. For more information, please visit our US Federal Loan page.
External Funding Opportunities
The School expects both Home and International students to take the initiative in supporting your studies and advises you to apply to as many sources of funding as possible.
To help you find these funding opportunities, we can provide guidance on potential sources of external funding such as charities, foundations and educational trusts. In addition, we also provide information on how to plan and execute a fundraising campaign. Ideally, you should consider how to fund your studies a year prior to starting, as many funding application deadlines are between January and March of the previous academic year.
If you are applying for external funding you’ll need to check that the organisation does not already donate money to the School. You can find a list of current donors on the School's supporters page.
