Soundcastle | Rachael Perrin with Jenni Parkinson, Gail Macleod & Hannah Dunster

Soundcastle is a music social enterprise that connects communities through creative music-making. Founded in 2011 by directors Rachael Perrin, Jenni Parkinson, Gail Macleod and Hannah Dunster, the company has been built on a shared passion for advancing the field of creative music facilitation and the drive to develop a socially responsible arts organisation. From its first roots in London, Soundcastle has now expanded to Brighton and Bristol. Embedding our work in diverse contexts, ranging from museums to social care, we facilitate processes that enable people with any or no level of musical experience to create imaginative and thought-provoking new music. People and places are at the heart of what we do.
What We Offer
• Creative music workshops
With people and places at the heart of everything, we design and deliver projects in a range of community settings such as museums, social care, schools, heritage sites and community centres.
• Training
We provide training, mentoring and continuing professional development for music practitioners and hubs.
Innovation
We are constantly undergoing action research and development through our flagship project Musical Beacons.
Our Manifesto
‘There are cultures in the world where to say “I’m not musical” would be meaningless, akin to saying “I’m not alive”’ Phillip Ball, The Music Instinct (2010)
Music is for everyone. It is a fundamental part of being human. It is the first thing that we respond to when still in the womb, and it is the last thing preserved in our memory when mind and body deteriorate.
• We believe that everyone has the power to make music, and the right to feel ownership of it.
• We believe in the incredible power of music to connect people across language and social barriers.
• We believe that music has a profound and positive effect on our health and wellbeing.
• We seek to spark a revolution, bringing active music-making into people’s lives, homes and communities.
