The Music Generation | Meera Fernandes

The Music Generation (MGen) is a social enterprise based in Australia that commits itself to the accessibility of music and education. We run a mobile music school nationwide with profits going towards setting up music education projects in communities all around the world, primarily in India and Nepal.
Running since 2012, MGen has expanded to 6 cities around Australia. We provide cost-effective, quality, in-home music lessons to students of all ages and from all background. We've had students as young as 3 years old learning piano and our eldest student is 70 and learning the drums! We also aim to support music education in rural communities through online learning. Our service is not just for our students, but also helping musicians and music teachers find work that is flexible and can be sustained through a busy freelance schedule.
Meera Fernandes has started MGen at just 18 years old. She worked in a diverse range of settings as a music teacher in Australia, India and Nepal creating a teaching technique that's based on versatility and cultural awareness. She believes that music in any community or culture has it's roots in education whether it's you mother singing to you as a child or having the opportunity to pursue music at school and university.
Meera has been heavily involved in the communities she's lived in, working as a Music Strategy Advisor at The City of Melbourne aiming to improve Melbourne's live music culture, or playing trumpet with artist around India, including Madboy/Mink and Badshah.
Meera is looking to develop and grow MGen, in order to fund and sustain MGen's most recent project, Saptak in partnership with The Sound Space in Mumbai – she looks forward to working with Guildhall School to achieve this goal.
