The Change Makers Academy

Hands on training for adapting and thriving beyond 2020.

2020 has hit us all hard. As creative professionals how do we adapt to a world that is in constant flux, in a sector which has been up-ended? How can we build our professional resilience, and find opportunities, connections and renewed purpose in 2021 and beyond?

This new course, developed and led by the Change Collective with the Guildhall School, will support a cohort of creative professionals over 6 weeks to evolve their practice, approach and skills. The course will comprise both theory and practice, with the ultimate aim to foster genuine change and career development.

Dates and Times

Every Monday, 6pm - 8:30pm

February: 8th, 15th, 22nd

March: 8th, 15th, 22nd

The course will also include one peer lead learning session per week. The dates and length of these sessions will be decided between the group and their availability.

Who is this programme for?

Professionals from small/medium sized creative organisations as well as established or emerging creative leaders and freelance practitioners.

We have a number of sponsored places available to those who would not otherwise be in a position to take the course (more below).

Course Summary

We are on the cusp of a new kind of creative ecology. New and emergent models are beginning to surface which may help us see the way forward.  This six week blended learning programme will explore both theory and practice to help build a community of diverse practice and perspectives to understand more about how to better navigate times of uncertainty.

What are the specific objectives?

  • Explore new models and approaches to creative enterprise from leading UK and International practitioners.
  • Discover practical responses and methods for navigating uncertainty in the creative and cultural sector.
  • Work across diversity to better understand how to build robust relationships, collectives, networks or organisations.
  • Cultivate and transform the personal, social and organisational systems that surround us – how you can work with and change these systems from within.
  • Evolve your mindset and practice: gather learning and insights to fuel new ways of being and working as creative organisations or practitioners.
  • Learn how to foster communities of intent and practice to feed your future creative goals.
  • Self organise and lead in a test space for the practical application of ideas by the end of the course.

How will it work?

You will Connect, Explore and Create new ways of seeing, being and working. The commitment is 4 hours a week: Each week will include a 2.5 hour facilitated session plus asynchronous task in small groups during the week (up to 1.5 hours)

Cost and how to apply:

Course cost: £275

Application deadline: Friday 15th January, midday

Sponsored places: The Guildhall School, The Barbican and The Change Collective are sponsoring a number of places for participants that we feel are able to contribute a valuable perspective to the process and who would not be able to participate without financial support. The process for applying for a sponsored place is the same – just complete the application form.

The application process is now closed.
