Monday 12–Friday 23 July 2021
Individual classes and group sessions will take place between 10am and 5pm, BST (UTC+1).


About Advanced Violin: Online

This intensive online course is intended for advanced violinists who are preparing for auditions, competitions and concerts. The course offers you the opportunity to: 

  • Further develop your skills and practice-techniques over the summer months
  • Gain further insights into communication and performance techniques
  • Explore aspects of style and performance in various periods of the violin repertoire
  • Receive individual lessons with Professor Jacqueline Ross

Who is the course for?

Advanced violinists who are preparing for auditions, competitions and concerts.

What can I expect?

  • Five individual lessons with Professor Jacqueline Ross
  • The opportunity to perform in an online concert
  • An online masterclass, where you will receive feedback on your playing and have a chance to hear other students play
  • A question and answer session on the repertoire and technical points covered

Do I need anything for the course?

  • A USB microphone is recommended.

Course Fee

£525

Participation Bursaries are available for this course. You must be accepted onto the course before applying. (Please note the application deadline for participation bursaries is 1 June 2021)

Eligibility

  • The course is suitable for advanced conservatoire level students.
  • Ages 16+.
  • Participants must have sufficient English language skills to cope with course demands.
  • You may be required to submit a video demonstrating your ability. Requests will be made on a case-by-case basis.

Online Short Courses Requirements

All sessions will take place online using Zoom. A Zoom link will be sent to you in advance of the course start date with further instructions.

To participate in online classes you will need the following:

  • An email address
  • A reliable internet connection
  • A laptop/tablet/desktop computer with a microphone and camera (most have these included)
  • Speakers/headphones (the speakers in your laptop/tablet/computer should be sufficient)
  • A fully updated web browser able to use the most up to date version of Zoom, or a fully updated Zoom client

About the Course Tutor

Jacqueline Ross is Professor of Violin at the Guildhall School. Born in New York, she has enjoyed a unique and varied international career. Her research into style and performance has been supported by the Dutch Arts and Humanities Research Board, The British Council, AHRC and the London Centre for Arts and Cultural Exchange. She has given international masterclasses regularly, including at Curtis Institute, Juilliard, Beijing Central Conservatory, Paris Conservatoire, and many others throughout Europe and the Far East. She has also adjudicated on many major violin competitions, including the Menuhin, Salzburg Mozart, Leopold Mozart, Isang Yun, and Louis Spohr International Violin Competitions, among others.
