Guildhall Young Artists Taunton Drama Teaching Assistant

When: Saturdays in term time, 4 hours per week, 10 weeks per term in 2025/26, from November 2025
Remuneration: £21 per hour, self employed

 

Guildhall Young Artists Taunton (GYA Taunton) is one of Somerset’s most exciting Saturday performing arts centre offering a range of classes and performance opportunities for 5 to 18-year-olds in music and drama. Based at Richard Huish College, Taunton, young people develop their creativity and access high quality training across a variety of styles and genres.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Teaching Assistant (TA) to join our GYA Taunton community and play a key role in the development of our drama provision. Our performing arts centre has a dedicated and experienced team of teaching and support staff. We have strong links with Guildhall School and our host venue Richard Huish College, and have extremely supportive parents. 

We are seeking to appoint a TA who is able to support children and young people in a pastoral capacity in their performing arts learning, both within a group and on a 1:1 basis. We need the TA to be a good team player and willing to promote active participation in the drama workshops at GYA Taunton, to be able to work flexibly in a busy setting, and be a good communicator.

The successful candidate will be committed to supporting the development of children and young people, from a variety of backgrounds, to reach their full potential.

Administrative Assistant (Music Education Islington)

Permanent, full time (35 hours per week)
Salary range: £31,120 - £ 34,180 per annum (including Inner London Weighting), depending on experience/performance

Guildhall School is the lead delivery organisation for Music Education Islington (MEI) the Music Education Hub for the London Borough of Islington. MEI is led by Islington Council and Guildhall School of Music & Drama, in partnership with Music in Secondary Schools Trust and leading arts organisations and funders, as well as the Islington Community of Schools. 

In this busy role you will be responsible for providing high level administrative support for Music Education Islington (MEI) day to day work, in particular supporting the running of MEI’s weekly Music Centres. You will join a vibrant team and work extensively with Islington City Council and other external partners.

The ability to be self-motivated, maintain high standards and remain calm under pressure is essential. You will have an excellent communication, numeracy and time management skills, advanced MS Office and IT competency. Ideal candidate should have strong organisational and administrative skills. Knowledge of classical/contemporary/popular music, drama or production arts would be an advantage.

This role requires an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check.

This role is eligible for hybrid working.

This is an opportunity for a highly motivated, outstanding musician with a proven track record of working with talented students to be involved in this specialist music school on Saturdays each will include delivering classroom-based tuition to students across the age range as well as the opportunity for individual teaching within the specialism. Currently the role involves around 5 hours of teaching but could extend to further hours over time.

Guildhall School of Music & Drama is seeking an experienced, creative and confident Alumni Relations Manager to devise and implement the strategy for building and strengthening relationships with the School’s alumni community, as well as with its Fellows, staff, students and parents.

Centre for Young Musicians (CYM)

Part of the Guildhall Young Artists network, Centre for Young Musicians offers music provision to talented young people from all backgrounds in a thriving musical environment.  As a Centre for Advanced Training under the Department for Education’s National Grant for Music and Dance, CYM is a key provider of instrumental, vocal and ensemble tuition in London.  Our Saturday school and holiday courses offer a sustained and progressive route from the early stages of learning through to music college entrance.  Children start on our primary years programme (age 5 upwards) progressing to the Full Programme (aged 8 to 18).

London Schools Symphony Orchestra (LSSO)

CYM also manages the LSSO, a flagship orchestra with over 70 years of history.  The LSSO provides exceptional orchestral training for advanced young musicians aged 13–19, runs three annual courses including concerts and tours, and works with internationally renowned conductors and soloists.  Bursting with the energy and talent of the city’s young musicians, it is bold and forward-thinking, redefining what a youth orchestra can be and finding fresh, exciting ways to play and share orchestral music with the next generation.

Role Summary:

We are seeking an inspirational and dynamic leader to join CYM as Head of Programmes and LSSO.  This is a unique opportunity to shape the delivery of CYM’s highly regarded programmes and lead one of the UK’s most forward-thinking youth orchestras.

The post-holder will oversee programme design, timetabling, and delivery across the Centre, while providing artistic, pastoral, and operational leadership for the LSSO. They will manage and support staff, including Heads of Department, coordinators, tutors, and operational teams, ensuring a high-quality, coherent, and inclusive learning environment.

This role offers the chance to work at the heart of London’s musical education landscape, collaborating with staff, students, parents, and the wider music sector to inspire and develop the next generation of professional musicians.

Outline of essential requirements:

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have substantial leadership experience in music education, including programme management, timetabling, and staff oversight.
  • Possess orchestral management experience, with a proven track record of leading ensembles or youth orchestras, including courses, concerts, and tours.
  • Bring established links with the educational and orchestral sectors, and be able to able to build and leverage partnerships locally, nationally, and internationally to enhance programme delivery and student opportunities.
  • Demonstrate strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills, able to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be committed to inclusion, diversity, and widening access to music.

Any specific requirements (hours of work/flexibility):

Days to be worked: Tuesday to Saturday during CYM term time; outside term time, Monday to Friday.  This role requires flexibility to attend an annual orchestral residential tour, and occasional rehearsals and concerts on evenings and weekends, with time given in lieu.

The Guildhall School Trust is seeking a dynamic Chair of the Board of Trustees to lead our charity into its next chapter.  As Chair, you will guide the Board ensuring its strategic focus on robust governance, effective financial management and fundraising, and successful delivery of its mission. 

As we approach Guildhall School’s 150th anniversary in 2030, you will lead the way in securing philanthropic support for its significant funding priorities, including scholarships, bursaries, and capital projects. Working closely with the Principal and Chair of the Board of Governors of Guildhall School, as well as fellow trustees, you will help shape our direction, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards.

You will chair board meetings, foster a positive board culture, support trustee development, and act as a key ambassador for both the charity and the Guildhall School.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Board in setting strategy, culture, and direction
  • Provide leadership in securing new financial support for scholarships, bursaries, and capital projects
  • Support the management of the Trust’s endowment to benefit young artists and practitioners
