Gemma Martin (Theatre Technology)

What's been your highlight during your time at Guildhall?

My highlight has been programming The Welkin on Disguise, I enjoyed working along side my video designer to achieve the creative vision. I am excited to both Video engineer and programme for CHAOS, the integration of live cameras and utilising both Disguise and Touch Designer.

I also really enjoyed working as a sound 2 on Gilgamesh the Musical, I enjoyed building the ear hangers and booms. It was fun to work closely with both the cast and crew. 

What's been your highlight in the industry?

I really enjoyed working in Assembly Main Hall at Edinburgh fringe as a Sound and Video Technician. I mixed the Gala, working with 15 acts with 20 minutes to prep each act before the show. I helped to set up and maintain a moving Video Wall using NovaStar Wall Processing. It was fun to work in a fast paced environment completing multiple change overs on a variety of shows including bands, comedies and circus. 

I enjoyed working as a sound n2 cover for The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. It was fun to work with actor-musicians to mic the instruments as well as hairline mic-ing the cast. 

What are you most interested in working in after you graduate?

When I graduate I want to be a PSE and PVE, I enjoy the problem solving and creativity of engineering a system. I also want to be a disguise programmer, I love the flexibility and working collaboratively with my video designer.
