About Resolume for Live Events
This new online six-week course will teach you the fundamentals of working with the Resolume Avenue/Arena software to trigger, blend and manipulate video for live events or content creation. Unlike more traditional video editing workflows, this takes place in real-time with lots of options for physical control. It’s immediate, intuitive and lots of fun.
This industry standard VJ software is a popular choice for concert and club visuals but also finds its way into corporate event work, motion graphics production, projection mapping and live streaming. It enables you to work with video in a musical way and is also beloved by videographers, music producers, graphic designers, DJs, video technicians and audio-visual artists.
Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone aged 18 and over with an interest in creating a live video performance system – but especially useful for those wanting to create an audiovisual show, accompany a band or DJ or who wants to further their professional video skillset.
No previous experience of VJ software or video production tools is necessary, but a basic understanding of video and what you want to achieve is useful.

- The history and development of live video
- The project hierarchy and interface of Avenue/Arena
- Building a custom VJ project from scratch
- Using timelines and adding modulation
- Applying MIDI mapping to physical controllers
- Using video effects and generative sources
- Using audio reactivity for added dynamism
- Video mixing and blend modes

Eligibility
- We welcome participants from all ages 18 and over
- Participants must have sufficient English language skills in order to fully engage with the course
Online Short Courses Requirements
All sessions will take place online using Zoom. A Zoom link will be sent to you in advance of the course start date with further instructions.
To participate in online classes you will need the following:
- An email address
- A reliable internet connection
- A laptop/tablet/desktop computer with a microphone and camera (most have these included)
- Speakers/headphones (the speakers in your laptop/tablet/computer should be sufficient)
- A fully updated web browser able to use the most up to date version of Zoom, or a fully updated Zoom client

About the Course Tutor
The course is taught by Nick Feldman.
Nick Feldman has over 25 years of electronic music production and performance experience having performed at Glastonbury, Boomtown, Shambala and across Europe and Japan. He grew out of the DIY free party scene and became more experimental in his work.
Since 2012 he has been teaching music and video courses and is currently finishing a book on creative music production for publication in 2025. He has managed the London Ableton User Group and co-runs Crux – a series of audiovisual live performance events and electronic music/video jam sessions that recently celebrated a decade with a festival at Rich Mix.
Nick has been a professor in the electronic and produced music department of the school since 2017. He is a specialist in Ableton Live and has been teaching the software for music production, sound design and performance since 2012. He has used the software extensively for his own musical projects since the program first appeared on the market. He was previously running the London Ableton User Group.
