About Audition Technique: Acting

Whether you are interested in developing a speech for drama school or university or just generally improving your audition technique, this two-day course will give you an insight and introduction into the tools you need to succeed.

Who is the course for?
  • Anyone aged 17 and over who has an interest in acting and would be interested in applying for Drama School or equivalent programme
  • Actors who are interested in improving general audition technique
What can I expect?

During the course we will look at:

  • How to choose a speech and what to look for
  • Practical exercises that can be used to unlock the speech and enhance understanding
  • Discussion on the audition environment and techniques to encourage relaxation and readiness
  • Tips and techniques to bring the speech to life

You can expect to:

  • Have a toolbox of exercises and techniques to immediately analyse and prepare a speech
  • Feel confident in an audition environment
  • Have a structure and plan of action when under audition pressure

You will be expected to engage in practical tasks on the speeches that you bring to the course to work on. The atmosphere will be informal and welcoming.

Do I need anything for the course?

You will need to choose a Shakespeare speech and a modern speech that you connect with in advance of the course.

'I finished the course feeling energised and felt that I had a strong foundation to enter into the world of auditioning. It certainly helped me trust my own instincts and understand that each person has something unique to bring to the table.'

– Niamh, Audition Technique: Acting, Summer 2025
