About Audition Technique: Acting
Whether you are interested in developing a speech for drama school or university or just generally improving your audition technique, this two-day course will give you an insight and introduction into the tools you need to succeed.
Who is the course for?
- Anyone aged 17 and over who has an interest in acting and would be interested in applying for Drama School or equivalent programme
- Actors who are interested in improving general audition technique
What can I expect?
During the course we will look at:
- How to choose a speech and what to look for
- Practical exercises that can be used to unlock the speech and enhance understanding
- Discussion on the audition environment and techniques to encourage relaxation and readiness
- Tips and techniques to bring the speech to life
You can expect to:
- Have a toolbox of exercises and techniques to immediately analyse and prepare a speech
- Feel confident in an audition environment
- Have a structure and plan of action when under audition pressure
You will be expected to engage in practical tasks on the speeches that you bring to the course to work on. The atmosphere will be informal and welcoming.
Do I need anything for the course?
You will need to choose a Shakespeare speech and a modern speech that you connect with in advance of the course.

Eligibility
- We welcome participants from all ages 17 and over.
- No formal qualifications necessary. An interest in acting and a desire to train or take acting further would be useful.
- Participants must have sufficient English language skills in order to fully engage with the course
About the Course Tutor
The course is taught by Ashley Zhangazha.
Ashley is a graduate of Guildhall School of Music & Drama and has worked extensively in theatre, screen and radio. He won the UK Theatre Award for Best Performance in a Musical in 2018.
He regularly teaches, directs and sits on the audition panel at Guildhall School, LAMDA and the National Youth Theatre and has extensive experience in guiding actors in audition technique practices.
