About Movement for Actors
This new practical and energising two-day course introduces a dynamic approach to actor movement. Participants will build body awareness, develop alignment, strength, flexibility and flow, and learn to create theatrical expression through movement - individually, in pairs and as an ensemble. Rooted in body-based principles, the course emphasises play, curiosity and embodied intelligence, helping participants move with greater clarity, confidence and connection.
Who is the course for?
- Anyone aged 18 and over interested in developing a better understanding of their body and capacity for expression
- This course is suitable for actors, performers, dancers, directors, and people looking to audition for drama school
What can I expect?
Expect to move! The course includes floorwork, partnering and ensemble elements.
Do I need anything for the course?
- Comfortable clothing
- Thick socks (but you will also work barefoot)

Eligibility
- We welcome participants from all ages 18 and over
- Participants must have sufficient English language skills in order to fully engage with the course
About the Course Tutor
The course is taught by Anna Alvarez.
Anna is a movement director, choreographer, dancer and educator. She works across theatre, dance, opera and film. She creates sensory, visually arresting work in a creative and supportive environment.
Her theatre credits include: Brixton House, Hampstead Theatre, Sadlers Wells, Garsington Opera, Southbank Centre, The Arcola, The Dome (Brighton), The Place, The Young Vic and London Fashion Week.
She collaborates regularly with Fashion label Anciela and Siobhan Davies Dance. Anna also works with choirs and orchestras, exploring heightened and alternative ways of experiencing and performing music.
Anna is a movement and dance tutor at Guildhall School of Music & Drama and founder of Anna Alvarez Compañia, a dance theatre company that explores storytelling through movement, mixing ideas from dance, theatre, music and illustration through the lens of the Latinx diaspora.
