About Harp Intensive for Ages 15-24

Join harp teachers from Junior Guildhall for an inspiring four days of immersive learning and performing.

Aided by expert tuition from Harriet Adie and Charlotte Seale, this new four-day course will give you the opportunity to hone your technique and access tools for independent practice, improve your ensemble and sight reading skills, explore core orchestral repertoire and tap into your inner musicality as a musician and performer.

Who is the course for?
  • Keen harpists aged 9 to 15
  • The minimum recommended level is ABRSM Grade 2 on either lever or pedal harp
What can I expect?

A practical, structured week of hands-on classes including:

  • A daily technical warm up
  • Small group masterclasses working on solo repertoire
  • Ensemble training
  • A spotlight on sight reading
  • Studying orchestral repertoire
  • An end of course performance for family and fellow participants

During the course we will explore ideas such as:

  • Greater awareness of how hand positions, posture and release of tension affect performance and technical facility
  • Practice techniques to aid efficient and solid learning
  • How we can improve our confidence in sight reading and train the brain to read notes and rhythms fluently
  • Ensemble skills such as listening and identifying other parts within the ensemble whilst remaining focussed on our own music
  • The dynamics of performance within a group as opposed to performing solo, exploring new music
  • The opportunity to study core orchestral harp repertoire and how to count and follow a conductor
  • Confidence in performing and accessing our inner musicality, and how to bring the story and emotions of the music alive
Do I need anything for the course?
  • You will need to bring the music you are currently studying (with at least one piece at a performance-ready level), pencil, rubber, notebook, manuscript paper, metronome, playing shoes

  • A variety of harps will be provided on a first-come-first-serve basis (please note that the number of lever harps is limited)
