About Music Discovery Course
Our beginners music course for ages 7-11, will introduce children to a range of musical styles and genres, through weekly classes in spoken word, pop, jazz and classical. Group lessons will be given in string, wind, brass and percussion instruments, as well as group vocal classes.
The course will fully explore the use of voice and will develop ensemble skills, notation reading, improvisation, pitch and musicianship building, providing the strong foundations needed by all musicians.
All students from the Music and Drama Discovery Courses, will come together each Saturday and sing in the GYA Kings Cross Choir, developing musicality and vital ensemble skills. Starting at 9am and finishing at 11am, students on the Music Discovery Course will have one hour, 45 minutes of lesson time (with a 15 minute break).
Perfect for beginners, those who simply want to spend a few hours making music with newfound friends or are thinking about taking their passion for music a step further.
Music students will collaborate with drama and production arts students to create innovative performances. These will be staged at the centre and other arts venues. Visits from Guildhall School music students and tutors will give students the opportunity to further develop their skills and ask any questions they might have.
An optional Music Production class is available for music and drama students age 7–11 from 11am–12pm.
These classes will provide the perfect introduction to music technology and will prepare students to progress to the 11-18 group, where they will be encouraged to use more advanced elements of music production to express their musical ideas.
Please note, this will be an additional cost for students on the Music Discovery and Drama Discovery Course.

We regret it is not possible to give refunds in the event of absence as the Centre has to continue paying professional tutors and overheads. GYA King’s Cross expects as close to 100% attendance as possible, to ensure you develop and get the most out of your attendance.
Half a term’s notice is required to stop attending (except in exceptional circumstances). This notice period is required to fulfil obligations to the professional tutors, pay for facilities and to encourage you to be fully committed to the courses chosen.
