About Music Discovery Course

Our beginners music course for ages 7-11, will introduce children to a range of musical styles and genres, through weekly classes in spoken word, pop, jazz and classical. Group lessons will be given in string, wind, brass and percussion instruments, as well as group vocal classes.

The course will fully explore the use of voice and will develop ensemble skills, notation reading, improvisation, pitch and musicianship building, providing the strong foundations needed by all musicians.

All students from the Music and Drama Discovery Course for ages 7–11, will come together at the beginning of each Saturday and sing in a choir. This will enable them to warm up their vocal muscles, work as a team and get to know each other. Starting at 9am and finishing at 11am, students on the Music Discovery Course will have one hour, 45 minutes of lesson time (with a 15 minute break).

Perfect for beginners, those who simply want to spend a few hours making music with newfound friends or are thinking about taking their passion for music a step further.

Music students will come together with drama and production arts students to create innovative performances. These will be staged at the centre and other arts venues. Visits from Guildhall School music students and tutors will give students the opportunity to further develop their skills and ask any questions they might have.
