Intro text

Our practical Drama Course for those aged 11–18 teaches acting skills through inspiring weekly practical classes as well as offering regular performance opportunities and a space for young people to develop their own creative practice and projects.

Using a wide range of text based, non-text and improvised approaches, Drama Course classes include vocal and movement exercises, relaxation techniques, improvisation, devising and script work with regular opportunities for performance, including independent and interdisciplinary projects.

Beginner to advanced performers are welcome.  Classes are tailored to individuals and are suitable for those who are thinking about taking their drama and performance studies a step further, or those who simply want to spend time exploring their creativity with newfound and likeminded friends.

Drama Classes

Acting for Stage (Int-Adv Yr7+) with Arianna Gasperini

Acting for Screen (Int-Adv Yr7+) with Ben Nash

Creative Writing and Professional Skills Class (Adv Yr10+) with Ben Nash

Advanced Acting and Physical Theatre Company (Adv Yr 10+) with Ben Nash * Entry by audition

The Advanced Acting & Physical Theatre Company is a training ensemble for young performers who wish to develop their acting, devising and physical theatre skills at a higher level. Students work using professional rehearsal room practices, exploring ensemble performance, physical storytelling, chorus work, character creation, script analysis and devising techniques.

Membership of the company is by audition (date to be confirmed).Places will be offered to students who demonstrate commitment, creativity and a genuine desire to develop their craft. It is for young people who want to challenge themselves, work collaboratively and take ownership of their artistic development.

Led by Ben Nash, director, performer, choreographer and theatre-maker, this advanced class is designed for those who want to deepen their understanding of acting, devising and physical theatre. Ben trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and is Co-Artistic Director of Drama Mavericks CIC and Co-Artistic Director of Vatic Theatre, alongside his work with GYA students.

Through physical theatre, chorus work, improvisation, actioning text, character development and ensemble performance, participants also develop the skills that sit beneath successful GCSE and A-Level Drama work. Rather than teaching directly to an exam specification, the focus is on practical tools that help students become stronger performers, devisers and collaborators.
