About Acting Summer Course for Ages 12–15
This five-day course offers young people the opportunity to explore their creativity, develop performance skills and experience a conservatoire-training environment. Led by experienced industry professionals, the course provides a supportive and inclusive space designed to encourage collaboration, creativity and confidence.
Who is the course for?
- Anyone aged 12 to 15 with a passion for acting and theatre
- No prior experience is required. The course is open to all levels, participants should be ready to commit fully to the work and their ensemble in order to make the most of the experience
What can I expect?
Participants will work in a group of up to 16, guided by professional tutors in a range of practical, workshop-based sessions. Areas of focus will include:
- Voice and singing
- Movement
- Improvisation
- Imagination and creativity exercises
- Working on sections of text
There may be a small amount of preparation ahead of the course.
The week will conclude with a short, informal sharing of work for parents/guardians, presented as an open rehearsal. Rather than a traditional ‘show’, it is an opportunity to see the creative process in short sections of work.
Do I need anything for the course?
- Comfortable clothing suitable for movement (please bring a spare set, particularly in warm weather)
- Pen/pencil
- Paper
- A set text will be used throughout the course. Please ensure you have purchased a copy and have read and familiarised yourself with it.

Eligibility
- For everyone aged 12–15*
- No previous experience is necessary
- Participants must have sufficient English language skills in order to fully engage with the course
- A willingness and desire to share your work with your peers is a necessity in order to participate fully

About the Course Tutor
The course has been developed by Emily Berrington.
You will work with a range of tutors and industry professionals appointed by the course leader.
Emily Berrington trained in acting at Guildhall School of Music & Drama and has since worked extensively on stage and screen. Her credits include Children’s Children and Machinal (Almeida Theatre), Dead Funny (Vaudeville Theatre), 24 (Fox/Sky), Outnumbered (BBC), The Inbetweeners 2 Movie (Bwark/Film 4) and Humans (AMC/C4).
Emily sits on the Guildhall audition panel and has been running workshops for actors/organisations for a number of years, which include the Guildhall BA and MA Acting course and The Actor’s Centre.
