About Movement for Musicians
This new two-day course is designed to inspire fresh enthusiasm and awareness for the importance of bodywork and movement in artistic practice. Led by movement specialist Bryony Williams and accompanied by Rebecca Cohen, pianist, the course offers a safe and creative space for musicians to explore the body as a source of support, energy, connection and creative expression, closely allied to the music.
Drawing on decades of cross-cultural movement experience and inter-art collaboration, Bryony brings a unique approach to movement that supports artistic growth and personal insight.
Who is the course for?
- Musicians aged 18 and over seeking to deepen their physical awareness and expressive range, curious about the role of movement in creative practice, anyone who has always wanted to try moving/dancing but never dared.
- No previous dance/movement experience needed
What can I expect?
The course aims to:
- Provide the tools to improve presentation and audition skills
- Suggest ways to calm nerves, stress and release unnecessary tensions
- Find a body/mind balance
- Gain deeper insights into the power of bodywork and movement
- Support both individual and group creativity
- Enjoy the process of discovery and collaboration with other artists
- Create a safe and non-judgemental space for experimentation
- Ignite interest and enthusiasm to continue exploring this work

Please note that there is no expectation to perform the movement material on this course.
Do I need anything for the course?
- Loose, comfortable clothing for movement, preferably no skirts
- Flexible trainers, jazz dance shoes if you have them, or socks/bare feet
- Layers for temperature changes
- A notebook and pen
- Water
- Optional: an instrument, song, poem, or a piece of artwork you'd like to work with

Eligibility
- We welcome participants from all ages 18 and over
- Participants must have sufficient English language skills in order to fully engage with the course
About the Course Tutor
The course is taught by Bryony Williams, FHEA.
Bryony Williams, FHEA, trained in the 1970s with Ernest Berk in German Expressionist Dance. In the 1980s and 1990s she studied Seishin Kitaido, a ki martial art, as well as Boh Jitsu, Bokuto (sword practice) and Shiatsu massage and Meditation with Ken Waight. Bryony has taught movement to vocal studies and music therapy students at Guildhall School of Music & Drama for many years. She also teaches at University of West London, Questors Theatre and Royal Academy of Music. She runs SpiralArts, a cross-art and intergenerational company.
