About Creative Evaluation Methods: A Practical Masterclass
This new one-day in-person masterclass explores innovative, creative, and arts-based approaches to evaluation and research. Through hands-on practice and collaborative co-design, participants will gain practical experience with creative methods and develop bespoke techniques tailored to their projects. Participants will leave with the confidence and tools to make evaluations more engaging, inclusive, and impactful.
Who is the course for?
- Evaluation and research professionals, project managers, arts practitioners, and community engagement specialists working in public engagement, arts, culture, health, education, or community projects.
- Also valuable for academics, students, funders, and policy makers interested in innovative approaches to measuring impact.
- No prior experience required.
What can I expect?
- An interactive day combining theory with hands-on practice.
- You'll explore creative evaluation methods, experiment with techniques in real-time, and co-design approaches with fellow participants.
- You'll learn to apply creative methods strategically, embed arts-based approaches into project planning, and critically assess their strengths and limitations.

About the Course Tutor
The course is taught by Dr Maia Mackney.
Maia Mackney is Public Engagement and Evaluation Manager at Guildhall School, where she co-creates evaluation strategies and frameworks for socially engaged artistic and educational work. She specialises in creative evaluation methods, demonstrated through her published article in the Journal of Cultural Trends and her presentation on creative methods at the Centre for Cultural Value. Maia leads capacity building across the sector through training, public-facing events, and evaluation support to external partners.
