Event information

As part of What Time is Now?, a special one-day programme presented at The Whitaker Museum for the UK-wide Being Human Festival, Dr Paul Archbold and students from Guildhall School of Music & Drama present Clatters and Squawks, an immersive sound installation inspired by objects in The Cabinet of Curiosities.

Taking over The Cabinet of Curiosities at The Whitaker Museum, the installation draws inspiration from objects in the collection, bringing them to life through sound. Listen to the clatter of a spooky doll designed to keep mill workers' children awake, the mechanical music of an imagined Victorian piano, the squawks of a bird lady, and the haunting murmurs of seashells displaced by time and space.

Created by students Yaoyi Chen, Scarlett Henderson, Lily Ou, Freya Wang, Junyan Xie and Sebastian Zamet, the project is supported by the Being Human Festival and Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

What Time is Now? is a research project and network of artists and academics lead by Dr. Brigid McLeer (Manchester School of Art, MMU) and Prof. Claire Langhamer (Institute for Historical Research, University of London).
