Renowned Japanese pianist Satoko Inoue joins Guildhall School for a special residency linked to our Composition department.
Internationally celebrated for her interpretations of contemporary solo piano music, Inoue is known for premiering works by leading Japanese composers and for her long‑standing association with Jo Kondo. She has performed widely at major festivals and venues across Europe, the Americas and Asia, and her recordings on labels including HatHut and ALM have earned significant critical recognition. A dedicated educator, she is Professor of Piano at Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo.
This autumn recital features works by Eden Lonsdale, Yohan Kim, Yuji Itoh, Paul Newland and a substantial selection of music by Jo Kondo.

Satoko Inoue
Internationally celebrated for her interpretations of contemporary solo piano music, Inoue has premiered works by many of Japan’s leading composers and is particularly acclaimed for her longstanding association with Jo Kondo’s piano repertoire.
Across her distinguished career, Inoue has become one of Japan’s leading champions of contemporary piano music. Since 1991 she has presented her annual solo series Satoko Plays Japan at major venues across the country, performing around two hundred contemporary works and establishing the series as a significant platform for new music. Before this, she was pianist with Musica Practica Ensemble Tokyo, a pioneering ensemble that introduced many important works of new music to Japanese audiences.
Her international profile includes invitations to major European festivals such as Darmstadt and the International Experimental Music Festival in Bourges, alongside solo recitals at MERIDIAN, Zilele SNR‑SIMC (ISCM) in Bucharest, Mersin International Music Festival, Festival l’Art pour l’Aar in Bern, and Ciclo de Conciertos de Música Contemporánea in Buenos Aires. She has also given numerous solo concerts across the United States, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Ireland, Turkey, Romania, Egypt and Argentina.
Inoue’s discography spans releases on HatHut Records, Edition Hundertmark, Emec Discos and ALM Records, and she was awarded the Keizo Saji Prize in 2010 by The Suntory Foundation for Arts for her recital Morton Feldman ~Works for Piano~. She completed her B.A. and M.A. degrees at Tokyo Gakugei University and is Professor of Piano at Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo.
