Event information

A concert devised by Iain Burnside focusing on lesser-known Russian composers.

Iain Burnside says: “Our obsession with big name composers means we tend to jump in perception from pre-Revolutionary Rachmaninov to Stalinist-era Shostakovich and Prokofiev. Of course, there was a whole hinterland of musicians waiting to be discovered. This project looks at composers who bailed out after the Revolution and those that stayed behind. Amazing poetry, eccentric characters and several extraordinary composers you've never heard of.”
