Aaron Copland’s An Outdoor Overture brims with youthful optimism and wide-open horizons, while Nicholas Maw’s American Games captures the playful energy of sport and celebration.
Samuel Barber’s radiant Knoxville: Summer of 1915, set to James Agee’s evocative prose, offers a tender reflection on childhood, and Leonard Bernstein’s dazzling Overture to Candide closes the evening with trademark wit and sparkle.
