Step into the vibrant soundworld of 20th-century America with this rich and varied programme conducted by Fraser MacAulay.

Aaron Copland’s An Outdoor Overture brims with youthful optimism and wide-open horizons, while Samuel Barber’s radiant Knoxville: Summer of 1915 offers a tender reflection on childhood, set to James Agee’s evocative prose. 

Nicholas Maw’s American Games captures the playful energy of sport and celebration, and Leonard Bernstein’s dazzling Overture to Candide closes the evening with trademark wit and sparkle.
