Love Without Borders: A Journey in Three Chapters
Guildhall welcomes internationally renowned mezzo-soprano opera singer Aigul Akhmetshina and versatile pianist and composer Jonathan Palmer Lakeland for a rare London performance of Love Without Borders: A Journey in Three Chapters - ahead of the Carnegie Hall concert this November, already noted as a New York Times highlight of the venue's upcoming season.
Join us for an evening tracing a musical journey across three chapters: classical art songs, opera selections, jazz standards, film music, and Latin American repertoire.
Akhmetshina is one of opera's most compelling voices and leading musical storytellers. She's known for her superb title-role performances at some of the world’s greatest opera houses, including the Royal Opera House, the Metropolitan Opera and Teatro Real. Hailed as 'the Carmen of our time,' she was the youngest person to take on the title role at the Met and then onto London's Opera House.
Lakeland has appeared in performance with singers at venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, and Alice Tully Hall (Lincoln Center). His arrangement of “Besame Mucho” is featured on Akhmetshina’s upcoming album, Mujer Fatal: Portrait of a Woman, with Sir Antonio Pappano on the piano.
This performance offers a rare chance to hear a world-class performance in an intimate setting, ahead of its major concert-hall premiere in New York.
