Guildhall is an institution that knows it has to be connected to the outside world - that's the key thing. It's not a bubble. It has roots in the city and in the world.

One minute you could be playing in the Guildhall Studio Orchestra with jazz musicians, the next you could be playing in the opera pit, then the next minute you'll b e with actors doing the musical and then playing a symphony in the orchestra.

The departmental philosophy of returning opera back to something that is essentially produced as part of a company is a really great thing.

Music Open Days | FAQs

What time do the Open Days start and finish?

Open days usually begin at 10am and finish at 5pm. There are some exceptions, for example Music Therapy offer an Open Evening which runs from 6-8.30pm.

There is usually a Guildhall concert in the evening of Open Days in our Concert Hall at Milton Court or the Barbican Hall for which we offer complementary tickets, and generally begin at 7.30pm, concluding by 10pm.

Do I have to come for the whole day?

No - the format of the open day is very informal and allows you to plan your day as you wish. The classes and components of the open days are scheduled to show you as much of what we do and offer as possible, so it is highly beneficial to attend the entire day.

Can I attend an open day if I am 16 and have not taken my A-Levels yet?

Yes - the open days are aimed at people who are auditioning or considering auditioning. You can also attend if you are younger than 16.

Will I be able to view the halls of residence?

No, we are unable to offer visits of the halls of residence on music open days, but you can take a look inside Sundial Court and find out what our students have to say on our Online Tour.

Will I have an opportunity to speak with Guildhall Professors or students?

Yes - there will be students around all day happy to answer your questions, and you will be able to talk to professors taking the classes. However if there is someone in particular you would like to meet with please contact the relevant Principal Study department and we will do our best for you.

Do I need to bring my instrument?

You will be advised by the department hosting the open day if you need to bring your instrument.

What level are the open days aimed at?

The open days are not aimed at undergraduate or postgraduate specifically, they offer an insight to what we offer.

I have a disability – do I need to let you know?

If you or someone who is accompanying you to the open day has a disability or require extra support or facilities, we are happy to help wherever we can. Please contact the Music Office on +44 (0) 207 382 7144 or email the relevant Principal Study department.

Who do I contact to answer further questions?

We are always happy to help. Contact details for all departments can be found on our Contact Us page.
