Guildhall Governor is recognised in New Year’s Honours

John Bennett, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors at Guildhall and previously its Chairman, has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the New Year’s Honours, for services to the City of London and education.

Bennett graduated in Biochemistry from Christ Church, Oxford, and spent 35 years in banking, retiring in 2005. As an elected member of the City of London Corporation since 2005, Bennett has served on committees and boards including Culture Heritage & Libraries, Barbican Centre and Education. He served three years as Chairman of the Board of Governors for Guildhall School (2015-2018) and is currently Deputy Chairman, with Vivienne Littlechild as Chairman.

Bennett said: “It is a great privilege to receive this recognition for my contribution to the City of London and education. I would like to thank the Members and Officers who have supported my efforts to ensure talented individuals receive the education they need to succeed, as well as those helping to promote the City’s role in supporting communities more widely.”
