The two winners were presented with the award by Catherine Comerford, Chairman of The Stage Media Company Ltd, and Jason Barnes, Hazel Sharples Memorial Prize Coordinator and former Production Manager at the National Theatre, after a matinee performance of Guildhall’s summer musical Merrily We Roll Along on Friday 5 July.

This year marked the twentieth anniversary of the Hazel Sharples Prize, set up in 1999 in memory of Hazel Sharples, a stage manager and arts officer who passed away suddenly in 1995.

During her career, Hazel worked for the Royal Opera House and the National Theatre, and chaired the board of the Warehouse Theatre, Croydon. Each year her friends and former colleagues make donations towards an endowed prize fund which provides an annual award for an outstanding Guildhall School third-year Production Arts student, who is voted for by their peers.

This year’s prize-giving ceremony was attended by past winners Rachel Gillard (2009, Executive Co-ordinator for The Luna Cinema), Scott Handley (2014, Deputy Production Manager for Kiln Theatre) and Rebecca Thornton (2018, Deputy Company Manager for Opera Holland Park).
