Lighting designer from Japan awarded the first Jane Ades Ingenuity Scholarship
Intro

Congratulations to Rin Akiyama, the first Jane Ades scholar of this newly launched scholarship.
Rin is in her final year of study on Guildhall’s Technical Theatre Arts undergraduate degree programme and she knows that being a lighting designer is her destiny.
Rin brings the multicultural traits of both Western and Japanese traditional theatre styles to her work and will be busy this term acting as the assistant lighting designer for the School’s opera double bill as well as for one of the opera scenes. Next term Rin will design the lighting for another opera scenes production.
“I feel so honoured to be awarded such a great scholarship. I still have a lot to learn and this encourages me vastly. I’ll make the most of my last year at Guildhall. Thank you.”
- Rin Akiyama, Jane Ades Scholar
“I pay tribute to the whole Guildhall School community for its extraordinarily front-footed response to the challenges we face. I am proud that the Jane Ades Ingenuity Scholarship established in memory of my sister is a part of that response. I am really thrilled to congratulate Rin, a very fitting, first Jane Ades scholar.”
