Marmen Quartet win joint-1st Prize at Banff International String Quartet Competition

Congratulations to Guildhall String Quartet Fellows the Marmen Quartet, who have been awarded joint-1st Prize at the Banff International String Quartet Competition.
The quartet also picked up the R.S. Williams & Sons Haydn Prize awarded for the ‘Best Performance of a Haydn Quartet’ at the competition, and were jointly awarded the prize for the ‘Best Performance of this Year’s Newly Commissioned Work’ alongside the Viano String Quartet for a performance of Bright Ferment String Quartet No. 2 by Matthew Whittall.
The Marmen Quartet are violinists Johannes Marmen and Ricky Gore, violist Bryony Gibson-Cornish and cellist Steffan Morris. The quartet has also picked up prizes at this year's Bordeaux and Joachim International Chamber Music Competitions.
The 2019 Banff String International Quartet Competition jury comprised Guildhall professor Ursula Smith as well as Gillian Ansell, Martin Beaver, Adrian Fung, David Harrington, Nobuko Imai, Philip Setzer.
