Recent alumni successes at Guildhall School (June 2026)

Music

• The Fibonacci Quartet, which formed at Guildhall School and features Luna de Mol (Violin 2023), Kryštof Kohout (Violin 2022) and Elliot Kempton (Viola 2024), will be joining the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO)’s Rising Stars programme for 2027-28, and is currently a Grand Résident at ProQuartet for 2025-26. • ProQuartet’s Resident Ensembles for 2025-27 will also include the Paddington Trio, formed of Patrick Moriarty (Cello 2020), Tuulia Hero (Violin 2022) and Stephanie Tang (Piano 2022). In May, the Trio performed a concert of works entirely by women composers in the Bagat’Elles series at the Orangerie Sonore Festival, Paris.
• Kit McCarthy (Composition 2024) and Amy Crankshaw (Opera Making & Writing 2020) have been awarded commissions through the London Symphony Orchestra’s Helen Hamlyn Panufnik Composers’ Scheme. They will compose a new five- and ten-minute piece respectively for the orchestra, which will be workshopped through with the LSO before being premiered in concert at the Barbican in the 2027/28 Season.
• Alastair Long (Trumpet 2001) has been appointed His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner (HMTC) for Africa and will take up the position in August. Read the Department for Business and Trade's announcement.
• Tagore Gonzalez (Clarinet 2009) won the 2026 Talía Award for Best Original Music for his work on Memorias de Adriano.
• James Flannery (Viola 2020) and Fabián Galeana (Double Bass 2021) were appointed Sub-Principal Viola and Double Bass respectively by the Royal Ballet Sinfonia. Learn more at Birmingham Royal Ballet's website.
• Alexandra Dariescu (Piano 2010), who is both a Guildhall School alumna and current professor of piano, will make her debut at the BBC Proms in August, becoming the first female Romanian pianist to perform in the festival. A recording of her recent concert with the Manchester Camerata playing Doreen Carwithen's Piano Concerto will also be released in September.
• Toby Carr (Guitar 2016), also both an alumus and professor, will release his debut solo album Softest Thunder on Delphian in October 2026, following the success of Battle Cry: She Speaks – recorded with mezzo-soprano Helen Charlston – which won both a Gramophone and BBC Music Magazine award in 2023.
• Matthew Lowe (Cello 2005) has been appointed Director of Music at Barnard Castle School.
• Fabio Fernandes (Guitar 2020) performed at the English Music Festival in Devon in May and will tour with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra on theorbo in June.
• Rüya Taner (Piano 1994) performed a special concert titled Sweet Waters of Asia at St James’s Church, Picadilly, in June. The programme featured works from across Asia, including the world premiere of Rüya by composer Rovshen Nepesov.

Drama, Production and Design

• Following his role in The Buccaneers, Matthew Broome (Acting 2023) was recognised with the International Golden Nymph for Most Promising Talent at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, and stars in the newly released Your Fault: London. Read an interview with Matthew in Esquire.
• Susannah Fielding (Acting 2007) and Levi Brown (Acting 2021) return respectively as Roxane and Christian de Neuvillette in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Cyrano de Bergerac at the Noël Coward Theatre, following its sold-out run in Stratford-upon-Avon.
• Evelyn Miller (Acting 2013) will take on the role of Gna, commander of the Valkyries, in the upcoming series God of War. The show will premiere on Amazon Prime Video after filming concludes in 2027.
• Leonie Benesch (Acting 2016) stars in Sky’s new action thriller series Prisoner, which was renewed for a second season in May.
• Evie Ward-Drummond (Acting 2023) reprises her role in the third series of G’wed, airing from June.
• Cristiana Dell'Anna (Acting 2006) was interviewed by Vogue Italia about her leading role in Netflix series Storia Della Mia Famiglia 2.
• Am I Losing My Mind Or Just My Figure?, written and directed by Samantha Holland-Bunyan (Acting 1991), heads to Riverside Studios in late July, before a full run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August, and a return to London for the Bloomsbury Festival in October.
