Biography & Pure profile
Chris Sampson studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and since moving back to the West Country is now much in demand as a freelance cellist, conductor, composer and teacher.
As a cellist he performs regularly with orchestras and chamber ensembles around the Southwest, including the London Mozart Players, the Bristol Ensemble, Craig Ogden, Freddy Kempf for broadcast on Radio 3, and working with conductors such as Yan Pascal Tortelier and Mark Elder in venues including the Royal Albert Hall, the Bridgewater Hall and St Paul’s Cathedral.
Chris is a regular soloist with the Taunton Sinfonietta and has performed with Symphonic Ibiza and the DPQ Jazz Quartet. He composed and directed the music for the Taunton Thespians production of 'Jeckyll and Hyde' at the Brewhouse Theatre and has been a tutor for the Dartington Summer School and the South West Music School.
He is the worship director at St George’s Church, Wilton, and in his spare time he plays a 5-string electric cello, runs a home recording studio, and directs the ‘Pursuit Of Gospel’ choir and band.
