Biography & Pure profile
Matt Scott Rogers is a British conductor with an international career in opera, ballet and orchestral music. A former member of the Jette Parker Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, he has since worked across Europe with companies including the Royal Danish Opera, Sofia National Opera, Malmö Opera, Opera Holland Park, Grange Park Opera, and UCOpera.
He is especially recognised for his work with contemporary composers, having conducted premieres of works by Gregory Spears, Jake Heggie, Matias Vestergård, Philip Faber and Kaija Saariaho. At the Royal Danish Opera he has worked on productions including Trojahn’s Orest, Steen-Andersen’s Don Juan’s Inferno, The Seven Deadly Sins, The Handmaid’s Tale and Dialogues des Carmélites. At Malmö Opera he has conducted The Nutcracker and Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
His performance of Boito’s Mefistofele at the Southbank Centre was widely praised:

Matt has appeared with orchestras including the New York City Ballet Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Tokyo City Philharmonic, Osaka Symphony, Orchestra of Opera North, City of London Sinfonia, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. He has conducted rarely performed operas with Chelsea Opera Group and a complete Da Ponte cycle with the Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra.
He has assisted conductors such as Andris Nelsons, Sir Antonio Pappano, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Marc Minkowski, Emmanuel Villaume, Marie Jacquot and Plácido Domingo, and has also assisted Vladimir Jurowski at the London Philharmonic Orchestra. His work with the Royal Ballet included its 2015 and 2016 tours, and he has served as a chorus master for the Royal Danish Choir.
Matt is Director of the Carlos Miguel Prieto Conducting Fellowship at OAcademy, Music Director at University College London, teaches conducting at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and is on the faculty of Trinity Laban. He studied with Neeme and Paavo Järvi and in Jorma Panula’s class at the Sibelius Academy, following earlier studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, University of Glasgow, the Sibelius Academy and the Guildhall School. He was a Leverhulme Scholar and Churchill Fellow.
