What has been your highlight during your time at Guildhall?

During my time at Guildhall, I have been given the opportunity to really challenge myself and my learning, the most impactful being the opera Dido and Aeneas, where I was the technical manager and automation programmer/operator, which are roles typically done by two or three people. I was pushed to be very organised with my planning and my time, and developed those skills in ways that will positively impact my work moving forward.

What's been your highlight in the industry?

Starting university, I didn't know what Automation was, and through the years, I have been able to shadow, Dep and do work placements with the auto departments in West End theatres. My most notable experience was depping at Starlight Express, where I followed the stage plot. It was a valuable experience to push my boundaries and learn the plot during the shows themselves.

What other passions and projects have you enjoyed exploring during your time at Guildhall?

I have a very keen love for exhibitions, galleries and pop ups and hope to pursue this in my future. In 2023, I assisted with  the set dressing and curation of three London pop ups: Crown Jewels garden in Covent Garden, Festival of Flavour at Somerset House and Wilton's Christmas decor. These included floral set dressing, lighting installation and prop making and setting. This all inspired my aspiration for exhibition and event curation and rigging.

What is something you've learned that you feel will help you when you graduate?

Guildhall has really boosted my confidence in many ways. I can hold professional conversations with fellow departments and creatives, as well as being able to prioritise workload and manage expectations. Managing a team is something that was new to me pre Guildhall and I can now confidently work with and delegate throughout a production.

What’s something you are most interested in working in after you graduate?

I wish to continue my skills in automation and rigging within theatre and bridge over to exhibition rigging and curation with a career in art handling. I have an interest in sculptural work, specifically artwork in non-conventional places, and hope to work alongside artists to create their visions.
