Founded in 1975 in Budapest, the Takács Quartet is recognised as one of the world’s leading string quartets.

The current season includes concerts throughout Europe and Asia, as well as over 40 concerts in the USA.

The Takacs Quartet records for Hyperion Records, and their releases for that label feature repertoire by Schubert, Brahms, Schumann and Britten. For their CDs on the Decca label, the Quartet has won three Gramophone Awards, a Grammy Award, three Japanese Record Academy Awards, Disc of the Year at the inaugural BBC Music Magazine Awards, and Ensemble Album of the Year at the Classical Brits.

The Takacs Quartet are Associate Artists at Wigmore Hall, and Visiting International Artists at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

Since 1983 the Takacs has held a residency at the University of Boulder in Colorado.

The Quartet members are recipients of the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary.
