Following the first traditional Korean music collaboration, this second project brings together Korean traditional music, Western classical music and electronic sounds in a new collaborative performance by students from Guildhall School’s Electronic & Produced Music Department.
Directed by EPM graduate and composer Sohee Baek (pictured), this project invites students to create new short works inspired by stories and poetry, exploring Korean modes, rhythmic patterns and traditional instrumental techniques through collaboration.
Students will work alongside Korean traditional percussionist Kangsan Lee, gayageum player Seoyeong Park and haegeum player Chaeeun Lee, who will introduce the distinctive sounds and performance techniques of their instruments.
The project begins with an introductory lecture on traditional Korean music, followed by a collaborative composition and sessions led by Sohee Baek. The resulting new works will be performed in this event, showcasing fresh compositions shaped through this cross‑cultural collaboration.

Venue information
Silk Street Theatre, Music Hall and Lecture Recital Room are located in the main Guildhall School building on Silk Street and for Barbican produced events the venue can also be accessed from the Barbican if you exit via the doors next to Barbican Kitchen on Level G.
