Part of ECHO Rising Stars and Guildhall's Alumni Recital Series

Baritone James Newby returns to his alma mater to give an intimate solo recital with pianist Joseph Middleton, live-streamed from Milton Court Concert Hall.

The Guildhall School alumnus, ECHO Rising Star, BBC New Generation Artist and former Kathleen Ferrier Award winner presents a programme of evocative songs from his recently released debut album.

Britten’s famous folksong arrangement I Wonder as I Wander sets the scene for a programme exploring themes of wandering, longing and humans’ never-ending search (geographical or psychological) for that distant object of desire: who, what or wherever it may be.

The concert centrepiece is the world premiere of an ECHO commission by Judith Bingham created specially for this performance, with new witty text based on Histoire de ma Vie by Giacomo Casanova, exploring his longing for company and freedom whilst imprisoned.
