Catherine Fleming studied music at the University of Hull where she won the Andrew Brown Memorial Prize in Music and subsequently the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she won the Portallion Chamber Music Prize with guitarist Arngeir Hauksson, and the Deutsche Bank Pyramid Award with Concanentes.

Whilst at Guildhall, Catherine studied recorder with Pamela Thorby and baroque oboe with Gail Hennessy, and together with fellow musicians formed The Flautadors recorder quartet and the medieval and renaissance ensemble Concanentes. With both groups she has performed in many of the major festivals in Europe including York, Barcelona and Bruges Early Music Festivals and toured the UK, Ireland, France and The Netherlands.

Catherine has given solo recitals and masterclasses all over the UK playing in the Royal Festival Hall and Purcell Room in London and the Pump Room in Bath, as well as performing with several orchestras including the English National Opera, Retrospect Ensemble and the National Chamber Orchestra of Wales.  She has performed live on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune and been involved with several recording projects most notably The Complete Recorder Music of Edmund Rubbra and Benjamin Britten (Dutton Vocalion), recordings for Deux-Elles with The Flautadors as well as sound tracks for television and film.

Catherine is a qualified teacher of the Alexander Technique having studied with the late Walter Carrington at the Constructive Teaching Centre in London.  Since then she has continued her study of the Alexander Technique with John Nicholls, Ilana Machover, Elisabeth Walker and Jane Saunderson. In addition to her teaching at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Catherine teaches at Eton College, Marlborough College and runs a private practice in West London. She regularly gives workshops and lessons in the Alexander Technique to musicians, works as an external examiner for a number of the UK music colleges and has recently adjudicated for the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and the North London Music Festival.
