Alda Dizdari

Biography

Alda Dizdari is a musician of immense diversity. Her triumphant debut at the Wigmore Hall and Southbank’s Purcell Room led to important appearances on BBC Radio 3, solo performances in London, Poland, US, Albania and the release of a highly acclaimed live CD recorded at the Wigmore Hall. Selected by Gramophone as “One to Watch” in the May 2011 issue, in July 2011 she launched a solo violin tour in the UK entitled In the Footsteps ofBach, and released a studio CD with that programme. In 2006 Alda received her first nomination for “The Best Classical Musician of the Year 2006” in her native Albania. Internationally she rose to fame in 2008 after performing Sibelius violin concerto with the Albanian Radio-Television Symphony Orchestra when it made its UK debut at the Canterbury Festival. As a devoted chamber musician Alda has been guest leader of Allegri String Quartet, performing in all the major music festivals in the country, leader of the Ensemble de la Chapelle St Mark, Luxembourg, as well as the founder ofChromatico Contemporary Ensemble and Competition. She has toured Europe with Ensemble Modern and Pierre Boulez. Now based in the UK, Alda was born into a family of musicians and left her native Albania from an early age to pursue her career in music. She studied in Romania with distinguished soloists and received a Bachelor Degree from the University of Bucharest. She continued her Masters Studies at the University of Illinois, US, and her Advanced Instrumental Studies in London, at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with David Takeno, where she held the prestigiousLeverhulme String Fellowship for two years. In 2008 Alda was appointed Musician in Residence of The Wapping Arts Trust. She has embarked on an extended tour of concerts and projects exploring the relationship between music and art called Rhythmic Ties Concert Series. These projects are taking her all around England, Holland, France, Spain, US and Australia collaborating with major visual artists and musicians. Alda plays a G.B.Ceruti Violin, Cremona 1791, bought specially for her by aprivate sponsor, and a Dominique Peccatte Bow on loan from the Stradivari Trust.
