Maureen Parrington

Biography

Maureen Parrington is widely regarded as one of the leading chamber music teachers in the UK. After gaining a scholarship to the Royal College of Music, Maureen studied both piano and violin as a joint first study, learning piano with Bernard Roberts and violin with Frances Mason. Upon leaving the RCM she received awards from South East Arts and a Countess of Munster Musical Trust to continue studying both accompanying and chamber music while performing on violin and piano in various chamber music ensembles.

Maureen was one of the official accompanists at the RCM Junior department for nine years, playing for competitions, South Bank concerts and external concerts, some of which were broadcast on radio and television. She also participated in Masterclasses given by Paul Tortelier, Igor Ozim, Arthur Balsam, John Ogdon and the Brandis Quartet. 

Maureen was a member of the Lysander Quartet, giving recitals throughout the UK and Europe, and the Snape Maltings Chamber orchestra, as well as freelancing for a number of years with London Contemporary Dance. She was on the staff of the National Youth Strings Academy when it was first formed in 1995.

Since 1978 Maureen has been a chamber music coach at Pro Corda (International Chamber Music Academy) and is currently a Course Director, directing the Young Music Makers programme as well as the Preparatory and Primary Courses. Maureen also teaches violin at Haberdashers' Aske's School for Boys in Elstree.
