Biography

Ben Wallace grew up South East London and after an uneventful school career found a love of theatre at Lewisham College. It was here he gained a grounding in all aspects of production arts. Ben went on to study at Wimbledon School of Art, graduating in 2002 with a BA (Hons) in Theatre Design.

After graduating Ben took on various technical and stage management roles and responsibilities across many tiers of London theatre. These spanned from rooms above pubs to working at the National Theatre. Here he worked with Katie Mitchell, Nicolas Hytner and Antony Neilson among others. Whilst at the National Ben saw first-hand what it is to make world class theatre.

After leaving the National Theatre Ben went on to work for the London Bubble Theatre Company, touring promenade performances across London parks. The Bubble's work with community participations is something at the core of Ben's practice, believing that the arts should be accessible for all who have an interest in it.

He took this ethos in to his role as Technical Manager of the Albany, in Deptford an arts centre with the local community at its core. By the time he left, the Albany looked after seven performance spaces across three venues. Its programme included Theatre, Music, Spoken Word, Opera, Visual Arts, Comedy and Circus.

After eight years of working at the Albany Ben took the decision to go freelance and worked across the performing arts, working extensively at the Roundhouse in Camden during this time.

Ben was then approached by the Guildhall School of Music & Drama to join the Production Arts department as a Production Management Lecturer. This is a challenge he is enjoying thoroughly.
