Looking ahead to the 40^th anniversary of the Barbican in 2022, the Barbican and Guildhall School are embarking on an exciting project to build an archive to share our story.

This project engages people who ‘don't sing’ in specially-designed programmes in order to understand the journeys adult non-singers take in learning to sing, and the ways they can be supported through a combination of psychological, educational, and artistic research.

Guildhall School’s research department develops, supports and champions important and unique research projects across subject areas that feed into creative knowledge and practice. Our research projects approach music and drama through a wide spectrum of novel discourses, which offer new insights into the arts and society.

Postdoctoral Research Fellows are an increasingly important part of the research environment of the School: they receive mentoring from established staff, supervise doctoral research, contribute to research-orientated teaching at undergraduate level, and form a vital part of large externally-funded projects hosted at Guildhall.

Our priorities for the next five years aim to address the precise role research has to play in the performing arts, what kinds of research will be the most appropriate in the near future, and how they will feed into the School’s overall strategy.

We welcome visitors on most Saturdays by arrangement and provide an individually tailored timetable to allow applicants to experience a typical day in the life of a Junior Guildhall student.
